TRB Committee AFD10 is concerned with identifying methodology and applied research to improve the basic planning, engineering, and analytical processes used for managing pavements. The committee is particularly interested in the relationship among the factors that influence pavement management decisions and how the resulting strategies reinforce pavement management’s role in supporting asset management goals. The committee is also concerned with identifying and encouraging research needs essential for improving the effectiveness of system components, models, and/or processes.

The Transportation Research Board promotes innovation and progress in Transportation through research by :

  • Facilitating information exchange
  • Fostering technical excellence in research
  • Providing expert advice
  • Disseminating research results

AFD10 is one of about 200 Standing Committees in TRB's Technical Activities Division, with responsibility for:   

  • Providing a mutual exchange of information among committee and task force members on socioeconomic and technological developments
  • Identifying research needs
  • Stimulating needed research
  • Advising on research priorities and procedures
  • Evaluating and interpreting research findings
  • Reviewing papers for presentation at TRB meetings and for publication
  • Encouraging the adoption of appropriate research findings into practice
  • Arranging special programs, conferences, and workshops
